The
TD Process is used to improve and extend the life of tooling for
the sheet metal, cold forging, aluminum die casting, powdered
metal, glass, textile, wire, and many other industries.
The
TD Process has proven itself superior to traditional coating processes
and saves tooling dollars by greatly reducing galling, seizure,
corrosion, and wear of tools, dies, and other wear related industrial
components.
Tool life
is extended up to 10 times or more, resulting in increased uptime,
better machine utilization, and greatly reduced die maintenance
costs. Dramatic decreases in die lubricant usage often result.
Stainless
Steel: Common tool steels like A-2 and D-2 have
a lot of Chrome in them, and so does stainless steel. Chrome atoms
in the tool and chrome in the work material are naturally attracted
and will bond when under forming pressure, creating galling. TD
effectively eliminates this problem by acting as a permanent barrier
separating the two materials.
Forming:
High strength alloys, high tolerance parts, reduced
lubrication, faster run times... today's manufacturing environment
is brutal, you could use some help. TD Coating parts is a very
cost effective way to reduce downtime due to maintenance. The
surface of your tooling can be over 90 Rockwell! Tooling maintenance
is a huge expense, and TD Coating can help you eliminate a lot
of the unnecessary waste.
Deep
Drawing: Proper material flow is crucial, and
Ultra-Dense TD Coating allows you to keep your radius, mirror
finished run after run, week after week, month after...
Hydroforming:
High pressure and high heat create havoc with lubricants, and
the metal needs to flow smoothly across the steel surface. A layer
of Vanadium decreases friction and heat build-up to increase metal
flow, without seizing and galling.
Piercing
and Shearing: Shear and Stab blades and pierce
punches are subject to extremely high abrasive wear while under
pressure. Almost all of the wear on a blade and punch occurs on
the sides as it enters and exits the work material. To protect
the tool you need something that is harder than the work material
and stays on, TD Coating is the answer. The Vanadium Carbide is
over 90HrC in hardness and since it isn't dependent on an 'envelope'
for adhesion, the tools can be re-sharpened many times.
Roll
Forming: Thick, hard work material, galling and
seizing up you rolls? TD to the rescue! TD Coating stands up to
the speed and pressure of roll forming the heaviest parts, even
in tight corners with poor lubrication.
Tube
Forming: Nothing eats up tooling faster than the
rough burr edge of welded tube. We know, we see it every day.
TD Coating is the best solution to increase the life of swage
and flange tools, tube forming rolls, mandrel balls and shoes.
Many companies have switched away from bronze tooling to D-2 with
TD Coating and seen life gains of 6 to 8 times.
Extrusion:
Extrusion punches are subject to enormous compressive
force in operation, and a coating without great adhesive strength
will peel right off. TD Coating not only stays on, it will improve
the part finish and extend the punch life by 8 times or more.
Die
Casting: TD can be used on cores and pins in Magnesium,
Zinc and Aluminum Die cast operations to greatly improve part
quality, reduce soldering, corrosion and wash-out and extend the
life of tooling. In a recent Ohio State University study of all
the major Die Cast coatings, TD was ranked #1 in performance.
